Why domain contacts matter
Registrant contacts identify who owns the domain for registry and legal purposes. On NextShopper, one contact set is applied to registrant, admin, tech, and billing together. Accurate name, email, phone, and address help FOA succeed, keep renewal mail deliverable, and reduce disputes.
This guide shows how to update contacts from the domain page.
Who this guide is for
- Businesses that changed legal name or address
- Owners correcting a typo in the registrant email before FOA
- Anyone transferring operational ownership details (without necessarily transferring registrars)
Before you start
- Collect the full contact: First name, Last name, Email, Phone, Organization (optional), Address, City, State, Postal code, Country.
- Use an email you monitor—FOA and registry mail may go here.
- Sign in as the account that owns the domain.
- Understand that changing the registrant email can trigger a new FOA.
Step-by-step: update contacts
- Open Domains → select the domain.
- Choose Contacts (help: Registrant details).
- Read Registrant contacts help: the same contact is applied to registrant, admin, tech and billing.
- Edit the fields carefully—especially Email.
- Select Save.
- Confirm Contacts saved.
What happens next / how to verify success
- Re-open Contacts and confirm the new values.
- Watch the registrant inbox for FOA if the email changed—complete FOA confirmation promptly.
- Notices may show Confirm registrant email until FOA finishes.
WHOIS/RDAP public display may still mask fields when WHOIS privacy is on; privacy does not remove the need for correct internal contacts.
Common problems
| Problem | What to try |
|---|---|
| Save rejected | Fix validation (phone/email format, required fields) |
| FOA after change | Expected—complete the email link |
| Wrong person receives FOA | Update email again to the correct inbox |
| Privacy still shows old public data | Privacy proxy differs from contact store—allow time; check privacy toggle |
| Cannot open Contacts | Confirm domain is active on this account |
